Polemical explanation of Isaiah 53 by Eliau Montalto, copied by Joseph Vas da Costa, first half of the 18th century.

Inscriptions on the reverse side of the back-binding: a) “dono deste libro Distomou com Juramento de não emprestallo A ninhum genero de pessoa sem qui primeiro da lhe um penhor suficiente por eu libro, Curaçao a 1 Abril anno 1753”. b) “Este libro he de Ishac Mendes Solla”. c) “Escripto por o sr Josseph vas da costa”. At the end a loose letter with data on the author of the Tratado by D. Henriques de Castro Mzn, dated Sept. 21st, 1871.

Three inscriptions on the reverse side of the back-binding: “O dono deste libro dis tomou com Juramento de não emprestallo A ninhum genero de pessoa sem qui primeiro dar lhe um penhor suficiente por seu livro, Curaçao a 1 Abril anno 1753” (The owner of this book has sworn that he will not lend it to anyone without pawn, Curaçao, April 1st, 1753). “Este libro he de Ishac Mendes Solla” (This book belongs to Ishac Mendes Solla). “Escripto por o Sr. Josseph vas da costa” (Written by Joseph Vaz da Costa).

For the author of the Tratado cf. nr. EH 48 D 08. The copyist was a teacher of the Sephardic congregation in Curaçao from 1650-1761. Also the owner Isaac Mendes Solla was a member of the Sephardic congregation of Curaçao in the 18th century.
